Pocock was an English artist who gained a reputation for detailed paintings of naval battles.

He practiced ink-and-wash sketches of coastal scenes in his logbooks while serving as a master of merchant ships.

He eventually gave up shipping to become a full time painter. Pocock was appointed Marine Painter to King George.
